HISTORY

A second generation family business, Aliments ASTA was founded in 1982 under the impetus of Jacques Poitras , a man of vision and audacity.

Persevering and visionary, an entrepreneur at heart since his youth, he acquired a slaughtering business in Saint-Alexandre-de-Kamouraska at the time. 

CERTIFICATIONS

ASTA Foods offers high-value pork products, renowned worldwide. This excellence is certified by several international organizations. Our employees are aware of and trained in animal welfare to ensure that all handling is carried out with the utmost respect for the animals

Animal Welfare Certification

Since November 2014, ASTA Foods has held the Certificate of Recognition of the North  American Meat Institute ‘s (NAMI) Animal Welfare Handling and Auditing Standards Guide . The audit was conducted by an accredited expert from the Professional Animal Auditor Certification Organization (PAACO).

This recognition is part of an ongoing process to ensure animal welfare standards are met on our farms, which comply with the Canadian Animal Welfare Standards of the Canadian Quality Assurance (CQA) program. This process also applies to our animal transporters, who must be TQA ( Transport Quality Assurance ) certified to meet the requirements for the humane treatment of animals.
